What makes a Celebration Unique
Some celebrations don’t need a grand venue or a hundred-person guest list to feel monumental. Kevin and Olga’s wedding day was exactly what they wanted, which was intimate, joyful, and in a neighborhood that was special to them. The two had already exchanged vows in a private ceremony the day before, making their celebration with family and friends less about the formalities and more about the people they love most. As their DC wedding photographer, I had the honor of documenting every moment of it.
Spanish Steps, Capitol Hill
We started the afternoon at the Spanish Steps in the Kalorama neighborhood, i.e. one of those hidden gems in DC that photographs beautifully and carries a quiet, old-world elegance. Formal portraits here always feel timeless, and Kevin and Olga’s were no exception. Georgetown Waterfront
From there, I played chauffeur (one of my favorite wedding day roles, honestly) and we made our way to the Georgetown Waterfront for couples portraits. This stretch of the Potomac is one of the most picturesque spots in the entire DMV area for photography. It’s relaxed, scenic, and full of energy. We laughed, we wandered, we got a few cheers from tourists. Kevin and Olga were completely at ease with each other, which makes my job as a Washington DC wedding photographer so much easier and so much more fun. Georgetown is consistently one of my top recommendations for couples who want something a little more effortless, and fun.
The Reception at Supra, DC
The evening celebration took place at Supra, a Georgian restaurant in DC with incredible food, warm atmosphere, and the kind of cozy, convivial energy that’s perfect for a family-style dinner. Guests gathered, wine was poured, and the night unfolded beautifully.
Two moments stood out above everything else.
The first: speeches by Olga’s parents. There’s something about a parent speaking on their child’s wedding day that gets me every single time.
The second: the presentation of an Orenburg shawl. This traditional Russian lace shawl, delicate and intricate and full of cultural meaning, was gifted to Olga during the reception. It was one of those moments that reminds you why documenting weddings matters.
The rest of the night was exactly what a wedding celebration should be: a family-style buffet, great conversation, and the kind of easy, loving energy that only happens when everyone in the room genuinely adores the couple at the center of it.
